Now Iceberg Away from New Zealand

VIVAnews - A group of the iceberg (iceberg) began to move away from New Zealand. This is thanks to the wind in the south west Pacific Ocean that encourages icebergs moving eastwards.

"Sea ice will disappear in the eastern New Zealand," said Marine experts, Mike William, Tuesday, December 1, 2009. According to him, the ice will not reach the limit of New Zealand coastline.

Nearest iceberg measuring 100-200 meters long, around 260 kilometers southeast of Auckland Island, or 400 kilometers south of New Zealand.

"The bottom of the iceberg of this size is 150 meters captured the smallest size of the satellite imagery," said Young.

William said most of the iceberg melts after eroded by wind gusts and now has been shrinking in size. That is why the satellite is no longer able to capture images of ice-ice that has melted it.

Large numbers of icebergs were also seen floating in the waters of New Zealand in 2006 ago, some of which appear from the coastline. Iceberg phenomenon in New Zealand first occurred in 1931.

Analysts expect the hundreds of icebergs that currently comes from the Antarctic ice fractions (South Pole) in 2000. At the time Ross and Ronne land split. Ross ice, which has an area equal to the French territory, is also believed to be the origin of hundreds of icebergs that appeared in 2006.

Last week, New Zealand cruises authority issued a warning for ships that crossed the sea around New Zealand. A leader of the expedition ship Spirit of Enderby, Rodney Russ said the finding of two giant icebergs on the northern island of Macquarie.

According to Russ, even though the cruise traffic in the area tend to be small but the sailors had to be careful. The reason could endanger the iceberg when the ship collided. "It was difficult for the captain of the ship looking down the ship. They should be more careful," said Russ. (AP)
